Removing
1. Turn away union nuts and disconnect pressure head and drain hoses in the places shown in an illustration.
2. Take appropriate measures to collect the escaping fluid.
Attention! The system is now free of fluid. Under no circumstances should the engine be started.
3. Disconnect the bipod from the steering mechanism as described above.
4. Turn away a terminal bolt of fastening of the cardan hinge.
5. Mark the relative position of the pivot and steering worm shaft as shown.
6. Turn away nuts and bolts of fastening of the steering mechanism from a side member of a body and remove the mechanism. The location of the bolts is shown in the illustration.
Installation
The steering gear is installed in the reverse order of removal. In doing so, keep in mind the following:
When assembling the shaft and cardan joint, align them in accordance with the markings. The pinch bolt fits into a groove on the shaft. If any parts are replaced, it is necessary to set the steering gear and the steering wheel to the middle position. The universal joint must move slightly onto the steering shaft, otherwise sensitive parts of the mechanism may be damaged. The coupling bolt is tightened with a torque of 25 Nm.
1. Tighten the mechanism mounting bolts to 50 Nm.
2. Screw on the union nuts of the hydraulic lines and tighten them to a torque of 45 Nm. Tightening should be carried out carefully, because. the connection has a fine thread.
3. Install the steering arm and tighten its fastening nut to 220 Nm.
4. Fill the system with fluid and remove air.
Steering gear repair
The steering mechanism is subject to repair, but this work is not described here. Experience shows that it is better to carry out the specified work in a car repair shop, or to replace the steering gear.
