Removal and installation the power steering pump (Opel Frontera A)

Here it is also necessary to take into account the year of manufacture of the car, since depending on this, the work has some differences. The difference is determined in most cases by the type of engine installed.

Engine 2.0 l (C20NE)



These engines were installed until mid-1995.

1. Remove the pump drive V-belt as described below.

2. Disconnect the suction hose and discharge pipe from the pump.

3. Collect the leaking liquid. The hose is secured with a clamp, the pipeline with a union nut. The connections are shown in the illustration.

4. Close the holes.

5. Now you can unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the pump from the console.

6. If it is necessary to install a new pump, immediately unscrew the clamping bolt and remove the rotary plate, since it is transferred to the new pump.

7. Tighten the swivel plate mounting bolts to a torque of 25 Nm.

8. The pump is installed with a console and a tie bolt. Check the V-belt, install it and adjust the tension as described below. Tighten the tie bolt and console mounting bolts to 25 Nm.



9. Install the fluid supply hose with a new clamp and the pressure line.

10. Screw on and tighten the union nut to 20 Nm.

11. After assembly, fill the system with fluid and bleed air as described above.

12. Check the system for leaks.

Engine 2.4 l



This engine is installed on cars produced until mid-1995.

1. If equipped with air conditioning, remove the compressor drive V-belt.

2. Remove the power steering pump drive V-belt as described below.

3. Disconnect the suction and discharge pipes from the pump.

4. Collect the leaking liquid. Plug the open holes with plugs.

5. Now you can unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the pump from the console.

6. Disconnect the pump as shown in the illustration. To do this, unscrew the tie bolt and the mounting console mounting bolts.

7. If the pump needs to be replaced, remove the turn plate and attach it to the new pump.

8. Tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 25 Nm.

The pump is installed in the reverse order of removal.

1. Tighten the pump mounting bolts to 25 Nm.

2. Follow the instructions above for the 2.0L engine pump.

2.0L engine, produced since mid-1995 and 2.2L engine



Both engines are installed on second-generation cars, i.e. on OHC 2.0L and DOHC 2.2L engines. Keep in mind that on a car with air conditioning, the pump is located under the generator.

1. Loosen the belt tension as described in Chapter Engine. for both engines. Do not forget to mark the direction of rotation of the belt on its outer surface.

2. Disconnect the discharge and suction pipes from the pump.



3. Collect the leaking liquid. Plug open pipes.

4. Remove bolts 1, 2, 3 and 4 shown in the illustration.

5. Fold the holder upward and remove the pump.

The pump is installed in the reverse order of removal. Observe the following tightening torques:

1. Fit the V-belt as described in Chapter Engine

2. Fill the system with fluid and remove air.
