With the engine running, the steering wheel should move to the right and left by 10 - 30 mm. If the play is greater than specified, you must adjust the steering yourself or take the car to a car repair shop. When self-adjusting, it should be borne in mind that this work is related to the safety of using a car.
1. Check the steering wheel for freedom of movement. To do this, it is moved up and down and rotated from side to side. Excessive play is not necessarily the result of incorrect steering wheel adjustment.
2. The need for increased force to turn the steering wheel, jerky steering or the tendency to turn in one particular direction can be eliminated by adjustment.
3. Set the steering wheel to the middle position as described above.
4. Loosen the adjusting screw locknut at the end of the steering shaft (arrow illustration) and turn the screw to the right to reduce the play. To increase the backlash, the screw turns in the opposite direction.
5. While holding the adjusting screw, tighten the locknut to 41 Nm.
6. Turn the steering wheel from one extreme position to another. There should be no eating.
