Opel Frontera

The Opel Frontera is a four-wheel drive SUV (J-segment) produced by the German automaker Opel 1991 to 2004 year. Manufactured under license based on a Japanese car "Isuzu MU/Wizard" (in some markets it was called "Isuzu Amigo"). The body was a five- or three-door station wagon, and models with a convertible body with a soft folding top were also produced. The engine was located longitudinally at the front, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In 2006, the successor of this car was released under the name "Opel Antara".

First generation (Frontera A, 1991-1998)

The first generation was launched in September 1991 and went on sale in February 1992. The three-door station wagon was 4192 mm long, 1780 mm wide, 1721 high, had a wheelbase of 2330 mm, a ground clearance of 230 mm and a curb weight of 1696 kg. The five-door station wagon was 4692 mm long, 1764 mm wide, 1753 mm high, had a wheelbase of 2760 mm, a ground clearance of 230 mm and a curb weight of 1803 mm.

The engines installed were 2.0 liter petrol engines (1998 cm³, C20NE / X20SE, OHC, 115 hp), 2.2 liters (2198 cm³, X22XE, DOHC, 136 hp) and 2.4 liters (2410 cm³, C24NE, 125 hp). There were also diesel models with 2.3-liter engines (2260 cm³, 23DTR, 100 hp), 2.5 liters (2499 cm³, VM41B, OHV, 115 hp) and 2.8 liters (2772 cm³, 4JB1T, OHV, 113 hp). All diesels are turbocharged and intercooled. All engines are in-line with four cylinders. Only a five-speed manual transmission with rear-wheel drive and selectable all-wheel drive was installed.

Second generation (Frontera B, 1998-2004)

The second generation appeared in September 1998 "Frontera B". The body was also available in three-door (Sport) and five-door versions. The three-door station wagon was 4268 mm long, 1787 mm wide, 1692 mm high, 2460 mm wheelbase, 230 mm ground clearance and 1565 kg curb weight. The five-door body was 4658 mm long, 1787 mm wide, 1740 mm high, 2702 mm wheelbase, 240 mm ground clearance and 1782 kg curb weight.

There were two models of petrol engines: a four-cylinder 2.2-litre (2198 cm³, X22SE / Y22SE, DOHC, 136 hp) and a 3.2-liter V6 six-cylinder (3165 cm³, 6VD1-W, DOHC, 205 hp). The diesel engine was a four-cylinder 2.2-liter unit (2171 cm³, X22DTH/Y22DTH, OHC, 115/120 hp). The gearbox was either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive with selectable all-wheel drive.

In 2001, the car underwent a minor update. The radiator grille and headlights have been changed. At the beginning of 2004, production was completely stopped.
