Removal

It is necessary to distinguish between cars produced before and after 1997.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

2. When removing the steering column, you should also take into account the instructions given in the previous subsection under the heading "Vehicles from 1997".

3. Remove the steering wheel as described above for vehicles of the corresponding year of manufacture.

4. Remove two bolts for models from 1997 and remove the hood lock.

5. Remove the lower instrument panel trim.

6. Disconnect the plug connection for the headlight high beam adjustment for models from 1997.

7. Loosen the two steering shaft casing mounting bolts and remove the casing

8. Disconnect the steering column from the cardan joint, having previously marked the relative positions of the parts in accordance with the illustration.

9. After this, unscrew the nut and knock out the bolt.

Caution: If an airbag is present, please note that the steering column remains in the center of the contact point.

10. Loosen the steering column mounting bolts. Two bolts are on the bottom sheet, two on the top clamp.

Now remove the steering column assembly. If the cardan joint on the steering mechanism jams, you need to disconnect the joint and then remove the steering column.

Installation

The steering column is installed in the reverse order of removal. Attention should be paid to the assembly of the cardan joint and steering shaft. The tightening torques for bolted connections and the sequence are given below.
