Disassembly and assembly of the steering column (Opel Frontera A)

When disassembling the steering column, it is necessary to take into account the difference in the design of columns with a fixed and adjustable column height position. To disassemble, the column must be removed.

Removal



1. Remove the steering lock as described above.

2. With the steering column fixed, remove the retaining ring from the end of the column and take…


2. With the steering column fixed, remove the retaining ring from the end of the column and take out the insert.

3. For an adjustable steering column, remove the upper universal joint clamp bolt and remove the lower shaft and joint from the column. If any parts need to be replaced, please note that the top shaft, tilt mechanism and column must be from the same set.

Assembly



The steering column assembly is performed as follows:

1. With the column fixed, lubricate the bearing surfaces with grease and insert the shaft into the coupling and steering column.

2. Install the retaining ring onto the shaft.


2. Install the retaining ring onto the shaft.



3. For an adjustable steering column, install the lower shaft and clutch assembly onto the column.

4. Secure the upper coupling with the clamp bolt.

5. Install the steering lock and bearing onto the steering column as described above.

6. Install the steering column in place according to the vehicle model.
