Removal
Parts can be replaced without removing the steering column. However, it is necessary to drill holes in the steering lock mounting bolts in order to unscrew them with other bolts with left-hand threads.
1. Remove the steering wheel as described above.
2. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the steering column trim cover.
3. Disconnect the switch from the steering column and unplug the connector.
4. Remove the retaining ring at the top of the steering column and take out the insert.
5. Insert the ignition key into the switch and turn it to the "OFF" position. The steering lock cannot be removed if it is locked.
6. Disconnect the ignition switch plug connection.
7. Punch the heads of the shear bolts with a center punch and drill holes in them with a drill.
8. Cut left-hand threads and screw in the bolts to remove.
9. Remove the bolts and the lock with the bearing assembly.
Installation
The steering lock and steering column bearing are installed as follows:
1. Install the steering wheel lock and bearing assembly into place and tighten the shear bolts until the lock is secured.
2. Install the starter switch and check the operation of the lock and switch.
3. Tighten the bolts as shown until the heads are sheared off.
4. Finally, connect the cable plug connection and install the retaining ring and insert.
5. Secure the combination switch and connect its plug connection. If there is an airbag, make sure the contact point is in the center.
6. Secure the steering column trim cover.
7. Install the steering wheel according to the vehicle model.
