Steering work requires a certain skill. Almost all modern cars are equipped with airbags for the driver, which creates additional difficulties during repairs. Qualified auto mechanics are specially trained to work with airbags. This manual does not provide instructions for removing and installing airbags.
When working on the steering, keep the following in mind:
- All threaded connections that have been coated with a locking agent "Loctite", must be passed by the lerka before the second application. The exception is microencapsulated bolts. Opel recommends the use of tool no. 15 10 177 for fixing threaded connections.
- Tighten all hydraulic hose clamps to 3.5 Nm.
- Adhesives and sealants have a certain lifespan. Do not use these substances if they have expired.
- Cables after their disconnection during the repair process must be re-fastened with clamps. Do not simply hang cables.
- Fluid drained from the hydraulic booster must not be reused. Fluid disposal must be carried out in accordance with current regulations.
- For most steering work, the vehicle must be placed on stands.
Safety measures when working with an airbag are given in the following subsection.
