Removal

Remove the timing belt of the gas distribution mechanism drive (see the relevant chapter).

Unscrew the bolt and remove the toothed belt drive pulley, using special tools KM 942 (1) and KM-662-C (2) to prevent the pulley from turning.

Note: The special device KM-662-C can be installed only after the piston of the 1st cylinder is set to TDC.

Remove the washer.

Drill two small holes in the seal (3), located at diametrically opposite ends of the seal. Screw two self-tapping screws into the drilled holes and use pliers to pull out the seal by the screw heads. Alternatively, lever out the seal (3) using a screwdriver blade.

Warning: When removing the oil seal, be careful not to damage the sealing surface of the crankshaft.

Installation

Clean the seal seat.

Check the shaft surface in contact with the seal for wear, scoring, scratches or other damage that may have rendered the seal unusable. If there are minor defects, they can be polished out, but more serious defects will require replacement of the shaft.

Lubricate the working lips of the new oil seal with clean engine oil and install it on the end of the shaft. Using the special tool KM-693 and the pulley mounting bolt, press the seal into place, being careful not to damage its working edges when installing the seal. Keep in mind that the working lips of the seal must be directed inward.

Install the washer.

Install the timing belt pulley onto the crankshaft. Using the KM-942 and KM-662-C devices, hold the pulley from turning and tighten the new pulley mounting bolt in several passes:
  • 1st pass: tighten the bolt to 130 Nm;
  • 2nd pass: turn the bolt further by 45°.

Install the timing belt of the gas distribution mechanism drive (see the relevant chapter).
