1. Remove the toothed drive belt and rear cover as described in Chapter 11.
2. Remove the key from the end of the crankshaft.
3. Punch or drill a small hole in the center of the gland. Screw in the self-tapping screw and pull out the seal behind it. It may take several attempts. Be careful not to damage the crankshaft seal surface.
4. Clean the seal seat with a wooden or plastic scraper.
5. Before installing a new oil seal, protect the seal lips from damage. Lubricate the seal lips and then wrap tape around the end of the crankshaft.
6. Hammer the seal into place with a large socket or tube until it is flush with the outer surface of the oil pump housing.
7. Install the rear drive belt cover, install and tension the belt as described in Chapter 11.
