Front Crankshaft Oil Seal — Replacement (Opel Vectra A)

1. Remove the toothed drive belt and rear cover as described in Chapter 11.

2. Remove the woodruff key from the end of the crankshaft.

3. Punch or drill a small hole in the center of the seal. Screw in a self-tapping screw and pull the seal out with it. It may take several attempts. Be careful not to damage the crankshaft sealing surface.

4. Clean the seal seat with a wooden or plastic scraper.

5. Before installing the new oil seal, protect the sealing lips from damage. Lubricate the sealing lips and then wrap the tape around the end of the crankshaft.

6. Tap the seal into place with a large socket or tube until it is flush with the outside surface of the oil pump housing.

7. Install the rear drive belt cover, install and tension the belt as described in Chapter 11.
