Removal and installation the front crankshaft oil seal (Opel Kadett D)

Engine ONS

Removal

Remove the timing belt, see p. 1.3.

Loosen the crankshaft pulley mounting screws.

Note: To do this, set the car to the handbrake and engage the gear.

Unscrew the cooling pump.

Remove the pulley with a screwdriver.

Punch out the crankshaft seal with a suitable tool.

Screw in the screw and remove the seal.

Installation

Install a smooth protective sleeve on the crankshaft. The sleeve is necessary to avoid damaging the seal lips during installation (you can use sticky tape).

Lubricate the sealing lips on the new oil seal with oil and install it together with the oil pump housing on the protective sleeve.

Insert the seal all the way into the housing using the special tool KM-417 (1.3-liter engine) and KM-513 (1.6-/1.8-l engines), or a pipe of the corresponding diameter.

Install the gear wheel on the key and crankshaft, see p. 1.4.

Secure the cooling pump with a torque of 8 Nm.

Insert and tighten the timing belt, see p. 1.3.

Install the crankshaft pulley and tighten it with a torque of 55 Nm.

Caution: When tightening, engage the gear and apply the handbrake.

Install the timing belt cover.

OHV engine

Removal

Remove the camshaft drive cover, see item 1.12.

Knock out the seal with the holder from the cover from the inside out.

Note: Place the lid closed side down on a suitable tubular support and knock it out evenly using a punch, placing it at an angle to the gland.

Caution: Soak the new oil seal in engine oil for 24 hours before installation.

Installation

If necessary, pre-align the seal holder.

Install the new seal from the outside in using a suitable tool.

To install the seal, place the cover on a tubular support and press the seal flush with the housing cover.

When installing, the size of 9 - 0.25 mm must be maintained, see below.

The projections on the cover and the seal holder must be simultaneously offset.
