Attention: If you want to reuse a toothed belt that has been removed, then before removing it, you must mark the direction in which it rotated with chalk in order to install it later in the same position. In addition, the belt must not be bent. Failure to follow these rules can lead to the fact that the belt at some stage may break and cause major damage to the engine.
Removing
Remove protective cover.
Set the piston of the first cylinder to the ignition position. To do this, align the marking on the camshaft wheel with the marking on the housing. Why turn on 4th gear and push the car. If it is on the goats, then with the 4th gear turned on, turn the front wheel.
At the same time, the mark on the crankcase must be aligned with the notch on the V-belt pulley. If the markings do not match, rotate the crankshaft until aligned.
Loosen the alternator mounting and remove the V-belt, see point 22.3.
Remove belt pulley (Engines 1.2 / 1.3-l). To do this, engage first gear and cock the handbrake.
1.6-/1.8-l engines: remove vibration damper from toothed belt drive (4 screws).
Unscrew the coolant pump (arrow).
Using a 41mm or 36mm wrench, the coolant pump can be turned so that the toothed belt tension changes and can be removed. However, the alternator must first be removed.
If you have removed the toothed belt, then the position of the engine crankshaft can no longer be changed.
Installation
Attention: Before installation, check (mastering the markings of the camshaft wheel with the markings on the camshaft housing and the markings of the V-belt pulley with a pointer on the engine crankcase. To do this, put a pulley. check and remove again, see above.
Put on the toothed belt.
Tension the toothed belt by turning the water pump.
Tighten the water pump with 8 Nm, 1.6-l engines 25 Nm.
1.2-/1.3-l engines, put on the belt pulley on the crankshaft, insert the screws (OPEL №1503165) and tighten them to 55 Nm. In this case, engage 1st gear and cock the handbrake.
For 1.6/1.8 liter engines, secure the vibration damper with 4 screws to 50 Nm.
Put the V-belt on the pulley and tighten it, see point 22.3.
Make a full turn of the crankshaft and check the toothed belt tension again.
Install the toothed belt guard.
