1.4 and 1.6 liter engines with single-point fuel injection and carburetor
Upper Outer Cover - Removal
For easier access, the air cleaner can be removed.
If necessary, remove the alternator drive belt. On models with power steering, remove the power steering pump pulley and loosen the bolts. There is no need to disconnect the lines.
After unscrewing the bolt, separate the top cover from the back and bottom.
Installing the top cover back in place is done in reverse order.
Bottom Outer Cover - Removal
For easier access, raise the front right side of the car and support it. Remove the car wheel and fender liner. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
Unscrew 2 bolts, separate the bottom cover from the top and bottom.
Installing the lower outer cover back into place is done in the reverse order.
Back cover - removal
Remove the outer covers and timing belt.
Remove the sprockets on the belt shafts, unscrew the bolt and remove the belt tension indicator.
Loosen and remove the screws securing the rear cover to the camshaft housing and cylinder block, then remove the cover.
Its installation is carried out in reverse order.
1.4 and 1.6 liter engines with multi-point fuel injection
Upper outer cover
Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the air cleaner for better access.
Remove the alternator belt. On models with power steering, remove the power steering pump pulley, loosen the bolts to move the pump away from the cover. There is no need to disconnect the lines.
Unscrew the three bolts and separate the bottom of the top cover from the bottom. Remove the top cover.
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
For better access, raise the front right side of the car and support it. Remove the wheel and fender liner.
Remove the crankshaft pulley.
Disconnect the TDC sensor wire from the lower belt cover.

Remove the four bolts and remove the bottom cover.


Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Back cover
Perform the operations specified earlier for the back cover.
Remove the top and bottom screws securing the back cover.

Remove the back cover (if there is, disconnect the TDC sensor wire from it).
The rear cover is installed in reverse order.
Engines 1.8 and 2.0 l
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
For better access to the components, the air cleaner assembly can be removed as shown in chapter 4.
Remove the power steering pump belt.
Remove the alternator belt, disconnect the wire from the temperature sensor, release the clamps and remove the top cover. Its installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Top cover
Remove the top cover as previously described, then disconnect the bottom cover from the engine coolant pump.
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Back cover
Remove the outer belt covers, then the belt and sprockets.
Disconnect the TDC sensor wire contact. Unscrew the two upper and two lower bolts and remove the cover. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
2.0A twin overhead cam engines
Outer cover
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
For easier access, remove the air cleaner. Remove the alternator belt.
Remove the outer cover by unscrewing three screws. Install it in the reverse order.
Back cover
Remove the outer cover and sprockets. Remove the belt tensioner and idler pulley.
Unscrew the upper and middle studs of the outer cover. The upper one simply unscrews from the cylinder head, and the middle stud is fixed.

Unscrew the two upper and one lower bolts of the rear cover and detach it. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
