Front crankshaft oil seal (pulley side) — replacement (Opel Ascona C)

1. The front crankshaft oil seal can be replaced without removing the oil pump.

2. Remove the camshaft belt (see section 5).

3. On 1.6 and 1.8 engines, unscrew the bolt securing the torsional vibration damper and crankshaft sprocket. Remove the bolt and damper.

4. Using 2 screwdrivers as levers, remove the sprocket from the crankshaft. Remove the segment key.

5. Punch or drill a small hole in the surface of the seal and screw a self-tapping screw into it. Grasp the screw and pull out the seal.

6. Lubricate the lips of the new seal with grease and wrap the end of the crankshaft (see section 11).

7. Using a tube, push the seal into place. Install the segment key.

8. Install the crankshaft sprocket in place.

9. Install the camshaft belt (see section 5).
