1. Clean the engine with manual transmission removed from the car with kerosene or water-soluble solvent and a stiff brush.
2. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the starter.
3. Unscrew the bolts and remove the clutch cover.
4. Support the gearbox and remove the bolts securing the engine and gearbox to each other.
5. Disconnect the gearbox from the engine, making sure that its entire weight does not rest on the drive shaft while it is engaged with the driven clutch disc.
