2. Following the instructions in the previous sections, remove the following from the engine:
- A. camshaft timing belt
- b. cylinder head
- V. pallet
- d. oil pump with oil intake pipe
- d. pistons and connecting rods
- e.clutch and flywheel.
3. Turn the engine over so that it rests on the top surface of the cylinder block.
4. Main bearing caps are numbered 1 to 4 (starting from the camshaft belt side). Back cover (flywheel side) has no number. In order to correctly install the covers when assembling the engine, remember that with the crankcase upside down, the numbers on the covers are read from the water pump side (see photo).
Photo 26.4. Main bearing cap - identification number visible.
5. Unscrew and remove the cover bolts and remove the covers. If you are not going to change the bearing shells, they should be placed in their own covers. The standard inserts are color coded and should go back to their original locations when reused.
6. Note that the center bearing shell has thrust flanges to control axial movement of the crankshaft.
7. Pull the crankshaft out of the crankcase. Remove the top halves of the earbuds and mark them if you do not intend to replace them.
8. For disassembling the cylinder head and cleaning it and the pistons from carbon deposits, see section 30. Removing the camshaft, see section 9.
9. Remove the bolts and remove the rear camshaft belt guard.
10. The rubber plug located next to the clutch housing flange on the engine crankcase covers the hole for installing the TDC sensor. This sensor determines the position of the T.M.T. according to the position of the contact pins installed on the crankshaft counterweight.
