1. Perform the operations specified in section 18 to remove an engine without a manual transmission from a vehicle (paragraphs 1-8).
2. Disconnect the downshift cable from the carburetor or throttle body (depending on model).
3. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the starter.
4. Remove the bolts and remove the torque converter cover. Only on engines 1.6 and 1.8, unscrew the bolt and remove the torsional vibration damper from the crankshaft.
5. Remove the bolts and disconnect the drive disk from the torque converter. To prevent the disc from rotating, block its ring gear with a large screwdriver. When assembling the drive disc with the torque converter, new bolts will be required.
6. Support the automatic transmission with a jack.
7. Attach the hoist to the motor and lift it slightly to remove its weight from the cushions.
8. Remove the bolts securing the engine and gearbox to each other.
9. Disconnect the engine support brackets.
10. Move the engine away from the box until the locating pins are exposed and then turn the engine slightly so that it can be lifted out of the engine compartment.
