Oil pump — removal and installation (Opel Ascona C)

1. Remove the camshaft timing belt (see section 5) and the rear shield.

2. Unscrew the central bolt of the crankshaft sprocket (if any). Using 2 screwdrivers as levers, pull the sprocket off the front end of the crankshaft. Remove the segment key.

3. Remove the tray (see section 10).

4. Remove the oil pump oil pick-up tube and mesh filter.

5. Loosen the bolts securing the oil pump to the cylinder block and remove it.

6. The procedure for overhauling the oil pump is specified in section 29.

7. Before installing the pump in place, care must be taken not to damage the seal lips or bend them back when installing the pump. To do this, lubricate the seal lips and wrap the end of the crankshaft with cloth so that it takes the shape of a cone. Install a new gasket.

8. Install the oil pump in place and remove the fabric from the end of the crankshaft.

9. Tighten the bolts to the required torque and install the crankshaft sprocket in place.

10. Reinstall the pump oil pickup tube and strainer, oil pan, camshaft belt and belt cover.

11. Install the crankshaft pulley and camshaft drive belt in place and fill the engine with engine oil.
