Camshaft — removal (engine is on the car) (Opel Ascona C)

1. The procedure for replacing the camshaft is described in Sections 8 and 9. Although it is not necessary to remove the cylinder head, it is recommended that the cylinder head gasket be replaced each time the camshaft is replaced, since the seal may have been compromised when the camshaft housing was removed.

2. When installing a new camshaft, coat the cams and tappets with molybdenum bisulfide paste or special camshaft grease (if it comes with a new shaft).

3. When starting the engine for the first time after installing a new camshaft, follow the following running-in sequence:

• a. 1 min at 2000 rpm
• b. 1 min at 1500 rpm
• in. 1 min at 3000 rpm
• g. 1 min at 2000 rpm.

4. After the first 1000 km, change the engine oil (leaving the old filter).
