Engine oil consumption (Opel Kadett D)

Oil consumption occurs in the engine cylinders. There should be no leaks. Oil is used for:

• Lubricants for rubbing parts
• Heat dissipation
• Removal of combustion products

Oil consumption is considered normal if, subject to operating rules and no leaks, it is enough to replace. It is necessary to top up the oil if its level has reached the "top up" mark (the amount of oil added in this case is a maximum of 0.75 l). You should make sure that the oil level is approximately 7 mm below the top mark on the dipstick. If the level is exceeded, oil consumption increases.

Under certain operating conditions, oil liquefies. Frequent cold engine starts, driving with an unheated engine - these are the main reasons for oil liquefaction.

Fuel gets into the oil and washes away the oil film, the oil loses its lubricating ability, which requires a reduction in the oil change interval and can lead to engine failure.

Oil consumption in a new engine stabilizes only after 7,500 km.
