1. With the engine removed from the vehicle, remove the flywheel or drive plate (depending on the model), as described in Chapters 25 and 26.
2. Punch or drill a small hole in the center of the gland. Screw in the self-tapping screw and pull out the seal. Be careful not to damage the crankshaft seal surface.
3. Clean the seal seat with a wooden or plastic scraper.
4. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal, then hammer the seal into place until it is flush with the outer surface of the cylinder block and the rear main bearing cap (see illustration).
5. Install flywheel or drive plate (depending on the model), as described in Chapters 25 and 26.
