Removal



1. Remove the timing belt, sprockets and rear drive belt cover as shown in Chapter 11.

2. Remove the oil pan, oil pump inlet pipe and oil pan deflector (where it is applied), as described in Chapter 29.

3. On C16 NZ2, 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines, unscrew the oil filter from the mount on the oil pump, if necessary, follow the instructions Section 1.

4. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the oil pressure sensor mounted on the oil pump.

5. Unscrew the mounting bolts, remove the oil pump from the cylinder block. Remove the gasket.

6. The oil pump can be disassembled for inspection as described in Chapter 31.

Installation



7. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the oil pump and cylinder block, then position the new gasket on the block (see illustration).

8. Before installing the pump, protect the sealing lips of the seal from damage. Lubricate the sealing lips, then wrap the end of the crankshaft with tape to form a cone.

9. Install the oil pump. Check that the internal gear is correctly positioned on the hexagon on the crankshaft, tighten the mounting bolts to the specified tightening torque Specifications, then remove the tape from the end of the crankshaft (see illustrations).

10. Connect the oil pressure sensor wiring.

11. On C16 NZ2, 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines, install a new oil filter as described in Section 1.

12. Install the sump deflector (where it is applied), the oil pump inlet pipe and under the sump as described in Chapter 29.

13. Install the rear drive belt cover, install and tension the belt as described in Chapter 11.
