1. Oil must be drained on a hot engine.
2. On DOHC models, remove the engine skid plate to expose the drain plug and oil filter.
3. Place a container below the drain plug at the back of the sump.
4. Remove the oil filler cap, then with a wrench, unscrew the drain plug and let the oil drain (see illustration).
5. Wait ten to fifteen minutes to drain the oil completely, then move the container under the oil filter.
6. For better access to the oil filter, on models 1.8 and 2.0 liters, jack up the front of the car and remove the right wheel (see illustration). Check that the handbrake is applied.
7. Using a special key, unscrew the filter.
8. Wipe the mating surface of the filter with a thick (lint-free) with a rag, then lubricate the O-ring of the new filter with clean engine oil of the specified grade.
9. Install the new filter in place and clamp it by hand without using any tools.
10. Install the wheel and lower the vehicle to the ground.
11 Inspect the condition of the drain plug O-ring and replace it if necessary, then install the drain plug and tighten it with the tightening torque specified in the Specification.
12. Fill the engine with the correct grade and type of oil through the filler hole in the camshaft cover. First, pour in half the required amount of oil and wait a few minutes to allow the oil to drain into the pan.
13. Start the engine, let it run for a few minutes and check for leaks around the oil filter seal and pan drain plug. Note that the low oil pressure warning light may go out with a delay of a few seconds to allow oil to fill all relevant passages and a new oil filter.
14. Stop the engine and recheck the oil level. Add oil if necessary.
15. On DOHC models. install the engine protection plate.
