Every 15,000 km or every 12 months.
Raise the vehicle and secure it on stands. Turn the steering wheel to its maximum angle, then slowly rotate the wheel. Inspect the condition of the outer protective cover by squeezing it to open the folds (see illustration). Check for cracks, splits or deterioration of the rubber that could result in loss of lubricant. Also check the security and condition of the mounting brackets. Repeat these checks on the inner boots. If any damage is found, the boots should be replaced as described in Section 8.

At the same time, check the general condition of the CV joints by holding the drive shaft directly and rotating the wheel. Repeat this check by holding the inner joint and rotating the drive shaft. Any noticeable movement indicates wear in the joints, in the drive shaft grooves, or in the drive shaft lock nut.
