1. Remove the drive shaft as described in Chapter 8 and clamp it in a vise.
2. Using a small punch, knock the metal cover off the outer CV joint.
3. Loosen and remove the clamps from the rubber boots.
4. Cut the rubber boots with a sharp knife and remove them from the drive shaft.
5. Remove grease from the CV joint and wipe the drive shaft.
6. Using special pliers, remove the retaining ring from the outer end of the drive shaft.
7. Clamp the outer CV joint in a vise, then knock out the drive shaft from it.
8. Fill in the inner CV joint as specified in Specifications type of grease using a wooden spatula.
9. Install the new inner protective boot, make sure it is not twisted, then install and tighten the clamps.
10. Place the outer protective boot on the drive shaft.
11. Clamp the drive shaft in a vise and install the outer CV joint using a hollow metal drift. Make sure the CV joint rests against the shoulder.
12. Install the retaining ring so that it is fully seated in the groove.
13. Using a wooden spatula, fill the outer CV joint with grease.
14. Install the outer protective boot, make sure it is not twisted, then install and tighten the clamps.
15. Install the cover on the CV joint, using the two driveshaft bolts to align it. Push the cover onto the CV joint with a mallet.
16. Remove the retaining ring from the inner end of the drive shaft and install a new one.
17. Install the drive shaft (see chapter 8).
