- grease for CV joints in the required amount (110-130 g);
- new hinge cover;
- hinge retaining ring;
- new clamps for securing the protective cover.
To complete the work you will need:
- special pliers for installing clamps for fastening CV joints, pliers or side cutters;
- outer snap ring remover.
Removing
1. Remove the drive assembly (see «Front wheel drive - removal and installation»).
2. Using a slotted screwdriver, open the lock of the outer clamp.
3. Prying with a slotted screwdriver, we remove the end of the clamp from engagement with its lock and remove the clamp. The clamp can be removed by cutting it with side cutters (see «Actuator Inner Hinge - Removing, Replacing Protective Boot, and Installing»).
4. Similarly, remove the inner clamp of the protective cover of the CV joint.
5. We shift the cover along the shaft from the CV joint.
6. Using a puller for the outer circlips, open the circlip and remove the CV joint from the drive shaft.
7. If the hinge is to be reused, remove the retaining ring from it.
8. Remove the cover from the drive shaft.
Installation
1. If an old hinge is to be used, wash it in kerosene, wipe it with a clean cloth and let it dry.
2. We install a retaining ring in the hinge.
3. In order not to damage the new cover during installation, we wrap the splines of the shaft with insulating tape.
4. We put a new protective cover on the shaft, move it to the center of the shaft and remove the insulating tape.
5. Lubricate the shaft splines with a special grease for CV joints.
6. Using a puller for the outer circlips, open the circlip and put the CV joint on the drive shaft, while controlling the entry of the circlip into the groove of the shaft.
7. Fill the hinge with grease (cm, «Reference data») for constant velocity joints and put part of the lubricant in a protective cover (see «Actuator Inner Hinge - Removing, Replacing Protective Boot, and Installing»).
8. We shift the protective cover towards the hinge so that the large sealing belt of the protective cover is completely put on the hinge body, (small sealing belt got into the groove of the shaft (shown with hinge and protective boot removed).
9. Lifting the sealing belt of small diameter with a slotted screwdriver, we release air from the internal cavity of the cover.
10. Install the large and small clamps of the protective cover. With the help of special pliers and the installation of clamps or side cutters, we tighten the large and small clamps of the protective cover. Clamps are installed taking into account the direction of rotation of the drive. The outer end of the clamps must point in the direction opposite to the forward rotation of the drive.
11. Install the drive assembly on the car (see «Front wheel drive - removal and installation»).
