Removing
1. Block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on axle stands.
2. Remove the socket head bolts securing the drive shaft to the rear wheel hub. Remove lock washers.
3. Separate the drive shaft from the hub and support it above the disc brake assembly.
4. Remove the rear wheel.
5. Place a container under the final drive unit to catch the spilled oil.
6. Carefully press the drive shaft away from the final drive. On models with ABS, be careful not to damage the wheel speed sensor and its slip ring.
7. Remove the drive shaft from under the vehicle.
8. Inspect the circlip at the inner end of the drive shaft and replace if necessary.
Installation
9. Install in reverse order. Make sure the drive shaft is fully engaged in the differential bevel gear. Tighten the mounting bolts in three stages, given in Specifications (see illustrations). Check and, if necessary, top up the oil level in the final drive unit (see chapter 3).
