Removing
1. Block the front wheels. Jack up the rear of the vehicle, place it on axle stands and remove the rear wheels.
2. Remove both drive shafts (see Chapter 8 of this section).
3. Unhook the rubber hangers of the exhaust system and lower the rear of the system approximately 300 mm. Support or tie the pipe in this position.
4. Unfasten the rear flange of the cardan shaft from the elastic joint and press the shaft from the joint. Support the shaft with an axle support, do not let it hang under its own weight.
5. Support the final drive unit with a jack and lift it up so that the unit is pressed against the bottom.
6. Disconnect the wiring from the connectors of both ABS sensors.
7. Unscrew the bolt securing the damper bracket at the front wall of the final drive housing to the suspension cross member.
8. Unscrew and remove the bolt securing the final drive housing to the suspension cross member.
9. Lower a jack and remove the main transfer.
Installation
10. Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- A) Make sure that the distance between the two final drive bushes on the suspension cross member is 300-302mm. If necessary, reposition the bushings on the cross member using a universal puller.
- b) Make sure the ABS sensor wiring is securely connected.
- V) Use new nuts/bolts where necessary (see specs) and tighten all fasteners with the tightening force specified specifications.
- G) Install drive shafts.
- d) Finally, check the oil level in the block (see chapter 3).
