Maintenance schedule (Opel Vectra A)

The maintenance procedures in this manual are designed with the assumption that the vehicle owner will perform the work himself. The intervals given are the manufacturer's recommendations for vehicles driven daily.

If the vehicle is operated in dusty areas, is used to tow a trailer, or is frequently driven at low speeds, more frequent servicing is recommended.

Every 400 km or weekly

Basic service, every 15,000 km or 12 months


  • Replace engine oil and oil filter (Chapter 3).
  • Check all hoses and other components for leaks (Chapter 4).
  • Check steering and suspension components (Chapter 5).
  • Check the condition of the rubber boots of the drive shaft (Chapter 6).
  • Check transmission fluid levels (Chapter 7).
  • Check and adjust idle speed (Chapter 9).
  • Check the throttle linkage and lubricate it if necessary (Chapter 10).
  • Check the exhaust system for corrosion and leaks (Chapter 11).
  • Check all electrical wiring (Chapter 12).
  • Check and adjust the ignition timing (Chapter 13).
  • Replace brake fluid (Chapter 14).
  • Check the brake pads for wear (Chapter 15)
  • Check the handbrake linkage (Chapter 16).
  • Check the power steering fluid level (Chapter 17).
  • Check the power steering pump drive belt (Chapter 18).
  • Check the rear suspension level control system (Chapter 19).
  • Check the body (Chapter 20).
  • Lubricate all locks and hinges (Chapter 21).
  • Check the alternator drive belt (Chapter 22).
  • Check the direction of the headlight beam (Chapter 23).
  • Replace the battery in the door lock key (Chapter 24).
  • Take a road test (Chapter 25).

Full service, every 30,000 km or 24 months


  • Replace the coolant (Chapter 26).
  • Replace the air filter element (Chapter 27).
  • Check the operation of the intake air temperature regulator on the air filter (carburetor models only) (Chapter 28)
  • Replace the fuel filter (Chapter 29).
  • Replace the spark plugs (sOHC only) (Chapter 30).
  • Inspect and clean the distributor cover and high voltage wires (Chapter 31).
  • Check the clutch cable adjustment (Chapter 32).
  • Check the manual transmission oil level (Chapter 33).
  • Check the automatic transmission (Chapter 34).
  • Check the brake drum shoe for wear (Chapter 35).

Basic service, every 60,000 km or 48 months


  • Replace the timing belt (Chapter 36).
  • Replace the spark plugs (dOHC models only) (Chapter 37).
  • Replace the transmission fluid (Chapter 38).
