Every 15,000 km or every 12 months.
Note: Transmission fluid levels can be checked when it is cold (outside temperature below 35°C) or when it is warmed up to normal temperature (when moving a distance of approximately 20 km). Since the fluid level must be checked with the engine running, make sure that the car is parked with the handbrake on.
Cold transmission
1.- Place the car on a level surface and apply the handbrake. With the engine idling, press the brake pedal and move the selector lever through all positions, ending in position "P". Let the engine idle for one minute, then check the level.
2. With the engine still idling, open the hood and remove the transmission fluid dipstick from the filler tube.
3. Check the fluid condition (see below), then wipe the dipstick using a clean, thick cloth, then insert it completely into the pipe and pull it out again.
4. The level should be up to the mark "MAX +20°C" (see illustration).
5. If fluid needs to be added, turn the ignition off and add the specified fluid through the filler tube. If significant fluid additions are required, check the transmission for leaks.
6. When the fluid level is correct, check that the dipstick is firmly pressed into the filler tube.
Hot transmission
7. Measure the level as described above, but look at the "+80°C" mark.

Checking the condition of the liquid
8. Whenever you check the fluid level, inspect the condition of the fluid. Compare the color, smell, and texture with new fluid.
9. If the fluid is dark, almost black, and there is a burning smell, the transmission friction lining is worn out. The car should be presented to an Opel dealer.
10. If the fluid is milky, it is due to water ingress. This may be caused by a long period of short trips. If the fluid does not return to normal after a long trip, replace the fluid.
11. If the fluid is dark brown and sticky, it is due to overheating or overfilling. If replacing the fluid does not help, the car should be presented to an Opel dealer.
12. If dirt particles, metal shavings or other foreign particles are visible when checking the fluid level or when changing the fluid, the vehicle must be presented to an Opel dealer.
