Every 15,000 km or 12 months.
Note: The transmission fluid level can be checked when it is cold (outside temperature below 35°C) or when it is heated to normal temperature (when driving for a distance of approximately 20 km). Since the fluid level must be checked with the engine running, make sure the vehicle is on the handbrake.
Cold transmission
1.- Park the vehicle on level ground and apply the handbrake. With the engine running at idle, depress the brake pedal and move the selector lever through all positions, ending at "R". Let the engine idle for one minute, then check the level.
2. With the engine still idling, open the hood and remove the transmission dipstick from the filler tube.
3. Look at the condition of the liquid (see below), then wipe the dipstick with a clean, thick cloth, then insert it fully into the pipe and remove it again.
4. The level must be up to the mark "MAX +20°C" (see illustration).
5. If topping up is required, turn off the ignition and add the specified type of fluid through the filler pipe. If a significant topping up of fluid is required, check the transmission for leaks.
6. When the fluid level is correct, check that the dipstick is firmly pressed into the filler tube.
Hot transmission
7. Measure the level as described above, but look at the mark "+80°C".
Checking Fluid Condition
8. Whenever checking the fluid level, inspect the condition of the fluid. Compare the color, smell and texture with the new fluid.
9. If the fluid is dark, almost black, and has a burnt smell, the transmission friction lining is worn out. The vehicle must be presented to an Opel dealer.
10. If the liquid is milky, it is due to water ingress. This can be caused by a long period of short trips. If the fluid does not return to normal after a long drive, change the fluid.
11. If the liquid is dark brown and sticky, this is due to overheating or liquid overflow. If the fluid change fails, the vehicle must be presented to an Opel dealer.
12. If dirt particles, metal chips or other foreign particles are visible when checking the fluid level or when changing the fluid, the car must be presented to an Opel dealer.
