Note: When installing, use new head bolts and a new gasket; when installing the camshaft cover, sealant will be required. The stated tightening torques apply only to the latest bolts available from Opel. Earlier bolt types are tightened to different torques. Consult your supplier.


Removal



1. The cylinder head can be removed together with the manifolds, or the manifolds can be separated from the cylinder head before removing it, follow the instructions in Sections 4A, 4B or 4C.

2. Remove the timing belt and camshaft sprocket as described in Chapter 11.

3. Unscrew the two bolts securing the upper rear cover of the toothed drive belt to the camshaft housing (see illustration).

4. Disconnect the high tension wires from the spark plugs, mark their location to make installation easier; remove the cover of the breaker-distributor, following the instructions Section 5.

5. Disconnect the hose from the fitting that connects the crankcase breather pipe to the camshaft housing. If necessary, remove the bolt that secures the crankcase breather pipe bracket to the end of the cylinder head.



6. Perform a check to ensure that all relevant hoses, pipes and wires are disconnected.

Installation



7. Proceed as described in Chapter 20, items 23-41 inclusive, but in addition note the following.

8. Make sure all relevant hoses, pipes, wires, etc. have been connected.
