Front camshaft oil seal — removal and installation (Opel Vectra A)

Removal



1. The front camshaft oil seal can be replaced without removing the engine from the vehicle, by removing only the camshaft.

2. Remove the timing belt and camshaft sprocket as described in Chapter 11.

3. Punch or drill a small hole in the center of the seal. Screw in a self-tapping screw, pull out the seal with pliers.

Installation



4. Clean the seal seat with a wooden or plastic scraper.

5. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal, and tap it into place using a socket or tube. Be careful not to damage the sealing lips when installing.

6. Install the camshaft sprocket and timing belt. Tighten the belt as described in Chapter 11.
