Camshaft housing and camshaft — general description (Opel Vectra A)

            0

Note: When removing the camshaft housing, the engine must be cold. When installing, use new cylinder head bolts and sealant. Also, see point 3 before starting work.

General description

1. Without disturbing the housing, the camshaft can be removed only if you have a special tool to press the valve lifters when removing the camshaft.

2. If such a tool is available, the camshaft can be removed by first removing the toothed drive belt and camshaft sprockets as described in Chapter 11.

3. If you do not have the special tool, you will need to remove the camshaft cover. Since you will need to remove the cylinder head mounting bolts, it is highly recommended that you have a new head gasket ready for installation. If you do not replace the gasket and it breaks during assembly, the head will need to be removed again to replace the gasket, also using a new set of bolts. You have been warned!

4. Removal and installation of the camshaft housing are described in Chapter 18, as part of the cylinder head removal and installation procedure. If it is decided not to disturb the cylinder head, the points that relate specifically to cylinder head removal and installation can be ignored.

5. Removing the camshaft from the casing is described in Chapter 18.
