Camshaft housing and camshaft (Opel Omega B)

Removal

1. Remove the camshaft housing together with the cylinder head (see subsection 3.1.12).

2. Remove the casing gasket.





3. Measure the camshaft free play by inserting a feeler gauge between the thrust plate and the shaft, replace the thrust plate if necessary. Remove the two thrust plate bolts (indicated by arrows in the figure on the left) and remove the thrust plate (drawing on the right).



4. Remove the camshaft from the housing.



Examination

1. Inspect the bearing surfaces in the camshaft housing for wear. Replace the housing if necessary.

2. Inspect the bearing journals and camshaft lobes. If wear is detected, the shaft must be replaced. Inspect the shaft thrust plate and replace it if necessary.

Installation

1. Install a new camshaft oil seal.

2. Lubricate the camshaft with oil and install it in the housing. Tighten the thrust plate bolts and measure the free play of the shaft.

3. Install the camshaft housing.
