Removing
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the coolant, remove the spark plugs and remove the auxiliary drive belt.
3. Remove the timing belt. Rotate the crankshaft about 60°backwards before removing the belt. This reduces the likelihood of contact between valves and pistons.
4. Remove the intake and exhaust manifolds.
5. Remove the camshaft cover.
6. Remove the camshaft sprocket.
7. Remove the bolts securing the rear timing belt cover to the camshaft housing.
8. Disconnect the wires from the DIS module, coolant temperature sensor and crankshaft sensor. Remove the bolts securing the ground wires to the front of the cylinder head.
9. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the cylinder head. Disconnect the wires from the sensor on the left side of the thermostat housing.
10. Check that all hoses and wires that interfere with the removal of the cylinder head are disconnected.
11. Remove head bolts in reverse tightening sequence (see fig. Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence).
12. Remove the camshaft cover from the cylinder head.
13. Remove the cylinder head and head gasket.
Preparing for installation
1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the head and cylinder block. Clean the water and oil channels in the head. Clean the piston heads from carbon deposits.
2. Inspect the mating surfaces for deep scratches, dents, or other damage. Small scratches can be cleaned with sandpaper, severe damage must be processed on the machine.
3. Check if the surface on which the gasket is being installed is not deformed.
4. Clean the threads of the bolts in the cylinder head.
5. Prepare new bolts.
Installation
1. Install the head gasket on the dowel pins (indicated by arrows).
2. Check that the label on the gasket is facing up.
3. Install the head.
4. Apply sealant N15 03 170 to the mating surfaces of the head and camshaft housing.
5. Lubricate the tappets with oil.
6. Install the camshaft housing.
7. Insert new cylinder head bolts.
8. Tighten the head bolts in the sequence shown (see fig. Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence) in accordance with the data given in subsection 3.1.1.
9. Install the remaining parts.
10. Connect the battery, start the car and check the engine operation.
