Gas distribution belt (Opel Omega B)

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the outer timing belt cover.

2. Set piston N1 to TDC.



3. Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt (1), turn the tensioner lever (2) clockwise until it stops and tighten the bolt.

4. Remove the timing belt and mark its direction of rotation.

5. Carefully inspect the belt for wear and damage and replace it if necessary.

Installation

Position of the tensioner indicator relative to the slot in the rear plate



1. Clean the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets thoroughly. Check that the timing marks are aligned.



2. Place the belt over the sprockets.



3. Loosen the tensioner bolt and turn the tensioner lever counterclockwise until it stops. Tighten the tensioner bolt.

4. Check if the synchronization marks are aligned.

5. Turn the crankshaft two full revolutions.

6. Check the marks and loosen the tensioner bolt again.

7. If you have installed a new gas distribution belt, adjust the tensioner so that its pointer is pointed at the slot or at the "NEW" label (see figure Position of the tensioner indicator relative to the slot in the rear plate) and tighten the bolt.

8. If you have installed an old belt, the tensioner pointer should point 4 mm to the left of the slot or point to the "USED" label (see figure Position of the tensioner indicator relative to the slot in the rear plate).

9. Install the remaining parts.
