Removal using equipment OPEL MKM 881
1. Using a tool, the camshaft can be removed without dismantling the bearing housing. rigging (compressor) mounted on the bearing housing and provides fixation of the valve lifters. The camshaft comes from the left side of the tooling (first you need to remove the cylinder head cover, camshaft belt and unscrew the bolts securing the thrust plate).
Attention! Before installing the equipment on the engine, set the piston of the 1st cylinder Ei TDC of the compression stroke and turn the crankshaft further by 90°so that the pistons are ½ of their stroke from BDC and TDC. This measure is necessary to prevent contact of the valve heads with the piston bottoms when installing the equipment.
Removal procedure in the absence of special equipment
2. In the absence of equipment, the camshaft can only be removed after dismantling the bearing housing. The bearing housing is bolted to the cylinder head, so the cylinder head must be removed to remove the camshaft (see below). Attention! It is strongly not recommended to remove the bearing housing by unscrewing the corresponding cylinder head bolts (the procedure for removing the bearing housing in this case is the same as discussed below, see section Cylinder head - Removal), as subsequently the tightness of the head gasket will inevitably be violated.
3. Remove the cylinder head and bearing housing. Turn away bolts and remove the block of ignition.
4. Turn away bolts and remove a cover in the left part of the case of bearings (see photo). Remove the O-ring (must be changed during assembly).
5. Check the end play of the camshaft using feeler gauges that are routed between the camshaft and thrust plate. If the play differs from the norm, then replace the thrust plate.
6. Remove the 2 bolts and remove the thrust plate, paying attention to its orientation (see photo). Carefully remove the camshaft through the hole on the left side of the bearing housing (see photo).
7. Check the condition of the friction surfaces of the camshaft (necks and cams), if noticeable wear is found, replace the camshaft. If the camshaft journals and cams are badly worn, then also check the condition of the thrust surfaces of the tappets and the bearing housing.
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Replace seal and o-ring. Install the bearing housing and cylinder head.
