Gasoline engines and 1.7L diesel engines
Remove cylinder head.
Attention! If you need to remove only the camshaft, then you do not need to remove the entire cylinder head. But in this case, you will need a tool to compress the valve springs (see fig.B6032).
Attach the tool to the camshaft housing and evenly press the valve levers down. In this position, the camshaft can be removed.
Place the camshaft housing on two wooden blocks and remove the housing cover.
Remove ignition distributor
Remove HPV.
Remove the limit washer from the camshaft.
Pull the camshaft back out of the housing.
Installation
Lay the new camshaft housing on the wooden blocks.
Carefully insert camshaft with limit washer into housing. Tighten the washer with a torque of 8 Nm.
Install a new seal in the camshaft housing using an appropriate tool, such as Opel KM-636. If such a tool is not available, a sleeve with a diameter equal to the diameter of the seal can be used. In addition to it, a metal plate will be required, in which there should be two holes that match the diagonally located threaded holes on the camshaft housing. Install the seal as follows. Screw two bolts through the holes in the metal plate and camshaft housing. Using a bushing, insert the seal while tightening the bolts evenly.
Attention! Before installing the camshaft housing, insert dowel sleeves into the cylinder head.
Install the camshaft housing cover by installing a new gasket. Pre-clean the mesh in the lid.
Install the ignition distributor.
Install fuel pump (if it was taken) and tighten the mounting bolts to 18 Nm.
Install the cylinder head.
