Valve grinding (Opel Vectra A)

            0

Petrol engines and diesel engines with a capacity of 1.7 liters

Valves do not necessarily need to be replaced with new ones if there are no deep scratches on their conical surface. Valves can be ground 1-2 times. Further grinding of valves is not recommended, as this leads to an excessive reduction in the thickness of the cylindrical edge of the plate, which can lead to its burning. This is especially true for exhaust valves. It should be borne in mind that size A (see fig.O-1001) should not exceed a certain value.

Caution! The end of the valve stem must not be ground.

Caution! The end of the valve stem must not be ground.

Valve Test Template Dimension A Values:
  • for engines with a volume of 1.4 and 1.6 l - 14.4 mm;
  • for engines with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 l - 18.5-18.45 mm.

Size Check Template A (protruding part of the valve stem) you can make it yourself from a sheet of tin 1 mm thick.

If the value of dimension A is outside the permissible limits, the cylinder head should be replaced.

If the value of dimension A is outside the permissible limits, the cylinder head should be replaced.

When grinding valves, keep in mind that the angle of the valve plate should be 44°, and the same angle on the valve seat in the cylinder head should be 45°.
