Gasoline engines and 1.7L diesel engines
Attention! If the removed valve train parts are to be reused, they must be reinstalled. In order not to confuse the parts, they should be stored in the marked cells of a special box (it can be made by yourself. e.g. cardboard box).
Removing
Remove cylinder head and lay on wooden blocks.
Remove the rocker arms, tappets and hydraulic valve clearance adjusters.
Remove intake and exhaust manifolds.
Mark valves before disassembly.
Remove the valves using a spring compressor. Compress the spring and remove the crackers. After that, release the spring and remove the valve.
Remove the oil seal with a screwdriver.
Remove the exhaust valve rotator and intake valve steel washer.
Installation
Before installation, the valves and their seats are ground if necessary.
Rub the valves.
Before installing the valves, be sure to check the clearance in the guide bushings.
Lubricate the valve stems with engine oil before installing the valves.
Insert valves into guide bushings. Install all parts in their original places.
Attention! Do not confuse intake and exhaust valves!
Install the rotary device on the outlet valve.
Install new valve stem seals.
Install the intake valve shim and valve stem seal into the recess as shown.
Check the correct position of the shim (see arrow in fig.B8858).
Attention! If the inlet valve shim is incorrectly installed, the height of the inlet valve spring is reduced by 2.6 mm.
The consequence of this is that the spring is displaced towards the cylinder block, and this leads to damage to the camshaft.
Install springs and valves.
Compress the springs with the tool and insert the crackers (see fig.B3550).
Extend the springs.
Insert hydraulic gap adjusters.
When installing the rocker arms, make sure that one fillet sits on top of the other (see arrows in fig.).
Install rockers. Coat their contact surfaces with MoS-based paste2.
Install the intake and exhaust manifolds with new gaskets on the cylinder head and tighten the bolts to 22 Nm.
Install the cylinder head.
