Timing Belt Covers — Removal and Installation (Opel Astra G)

Top cover



1. Remove the air filter housing (see Chapter 4A).

2. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the cover from the latches (see photo).

2. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the cover from the latches (see photo).


3. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Bottom cover



4. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

5. Remove the belt tensioner (Chapter 5A).

6. Remove the top cover, unscrew the bolts and remove the bottom belt cover (see photo).

6. Remove the top cover, unscrew the bolts and remove the bottom belt cover (see photo).


7. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Back cover



8. Remove the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets, remove the camshaft belt tensioner

9. Raise the engine on a jack dolly, placing a board on the jack's lifting foot.

10. Unscrew the 3 bolts securing the right engine support bracket to the cylinder block, unscrew the bolts securing the support to the body and remove the bracket with the support.



11. Remove the crankshaft angle sensor by removing the bracket.

12. Unscrew the bolts securing the cover to the camshaft bearing housing and the oil pump housing (see photo) and remove the back cover.

13. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
