Warning: Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait 1 minute for the storage capacitor to fully discharge. Otherwise, the airbag may deploy unexpectedly, which may result in injury.
Removal
Remove the driver and front passenger seats (see the relevant chapters).
Remove the center console (1) (see the relevant chapter).

Remove the threshold trim (2) of the front door on the left side of the vehicle.

Remove the lower trim (1) of the front pillar.
Remove the driver's footrest.
Tilt the front of the carpet as far away from the engine compartment bulkhead as possible.
Warning: Do not touch the engine control unit connector contacts.
Drill out the shear head bolt (1) securing the anti-theft plate (2) to the engine control unit (3), then unscrew the second bolt and remove the anti-theft plate.

Disconnect 3 connectors from the engine control unit.
Remove the engine control unit together with the bracket from the instrument panel.
Remove the front radio bracket from the instrument panel.
Disconnect the rear air supply ducts from the heater unit.
Release the retainer (2) and disconnect the connector (1) from the airbag control unit.

Remove the bolts and remove the airbag control unit from the bracket.
Warnings:
- Never repair or disassemble the airbag control unit. If the unit is faulty, replace it.
- Do not drop the air bag control unit or subject it to impact or vibration. If dents, cracks, deformation or corrosion are found, replace the air bag control unit.
- After the airbag has deployed, replace the airbag control unit.
- Do not use an ohmmeter when testing the airbag control unit.
Installation
Warnings:
- Do not apply power to an improperly installed control unit, as this may result in serious injury to the vehicle driver and front seat passenger.
- The SRS system will not operate properly if any component of the system is not installed correctly.
Install the airbag control unit onto the bracket and secure with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 10 Nm.
Connect the connector (1) to the airbag control unit and lock it with the retainer (2).
Connect the rear air supply ducts to the heater unit.

Install the front radio bracket to the instrument panel.
Install the engine control unit (3) together with the bracket on the instrument panel.

Connect the 3 connectors to the engine control unit (3).
Install the anti-theft plate (2) on the engine control unit and secure with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 8 N·m. Tighten a new shear-head bolt (1) until the head shears off.
Place the front piece of carpet back in place.
Install the driver's footrest.
Install the lower trim (1) of the front pillar.

Install the threshold trim (2).
Install the center console (see the relevant chapter).
Install the driver and front passenger seats (see the relevant chapters).
Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
