Axle shaft seals

The seals are part of the drive bearing. The bearing is lubricated at the factory and does not require maintenance.

If traces of grease are found in the bearing area, the bearing must be replaced. The work required for this is described below in the subsection "Removing and installing axle shafts and axle shaft bearings".

Replacing the seal in the bridge sleeve (model with ABS)

The axle sleeve oil seal is installed only for vehicles with ABS and disc brakes. Bridges of vehicles without ABS have a bearing bracket without an oil seal.

The replacement of the seal is performed as follows:

1. Remove the axle shaft from the axle sleeve (see the relevant subsection).

2. Remove the seal from the bridge sleeve with a screwdriver

3. Press in the new seal using a suitable pipe

4. Install the axle shaft into place.

Differential housing cover seal

For coil spring suspension, mark the position of the axle sleeve relative to the brake pressure regulator connecting rod bracket.

If there are no coil springs, then the work is carried out as follows:

1. Unscrew the two nuts.

2. Remove the brake pressure regulator bracket from the axle on the differential case cover.

3. Place a container under the differential housing.

4. Remove the drain plug in the bridge.

5. Drain the oil.

6. Unscrew the twelve cover mounting bolts and remove the cover.

7. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the crankcase and cover.

8. Apply sealant to the lid.

9. Reinstall it on the crankcase, securing it with bolts.

10. Tighten the bolts evenly to 24 Nm.

11. If equipped with brake pressure regulator connecting rods, install them according to the markings and secure with bolts.

12. Fill the bridge with oil up to the lower edge of the plug hole.

Replacing the main gear pinion seal

The work presents certain difficulties, since it requires measuring the pre-tension moment of the drive gear bearings, followed by complete disassembly, assembly and adjustment of the unit. Therefore, it is recommended that the replacement of the drive gear oil seal be carried out in an auto repair shop.
