Removing
1. Please note that on models with a single overhead camshaft (SOHC) Only one shock absorber should be removed at a time. Shock absorbers should be changed in pairs.
2. On manual rear suspension models, depressurize the system by releasing air through the valve in the luggage compartment.
3. Working in the luggage compartment, remove the cover covering the upper shock absorber mount. On hatchback models, remove the flap covering the storage compartment for the first aid kit and warning triangle to gain access to the right shock absorber.
4. Hold the shock piston rod stationary and unscrew the shock absorber upper mounting nut (see illustration). Remove the washer and rubber part of the top mount.
5. Drive the car with the rear wheels onto the overpass and block the front wheels. Alternatively, block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on axle stands. If the vehicle is jacked up, the appropriate trailing arm must be jacked up (diagonal lever, double overhead cam models (DOHC).
6. Working under the rear of the vehicle, disconnect the manual suspension air duct from the shock absorber, where applicable.
7. Loosen and remove the bolt and washer securing the lower end of the shock absorber to the trailing arm (diagonal lever on models with two overhead camshafts (DOHC)) (see illustration).
8. On single overhead cam models (SOHC), compress the shock absorber by hand and release its lower end from the trailing arm.
9. Remove the shock absorber from under the car and remove the rubber part of the lower mount, as well as the cup from the upper end of the shock absorber.
10. To check if the shock absorber is working properly, clamp the lower mount lug in a vise, then fully compress and extend the shock absorber several times. If parts of the shock absorber move unevenly, jerkily, or feel a lack of resistance, replace the block.
Installation
11. Before installing the shock absorber, inspect the rubber pads for signs of wear and damage and replace if necessary.
12. Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following.
13. Where applicable, verify that the shock absorber air duct connector is positioned correctly.
14. Tighten the bolt of the lower mounting of the shock absorber with a tightening torque regulated specifications.
15. On manual rear suspension models, pressurize the system to 0.8 bar and check the system for air leaks.
