Note: Turn the ignition switch key to the LOCK position with the selector lever in the P position.
Removal
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
Remove the handles from the selector lever and transfer case control lever.
Remove the lower instrument cluster trim and the rear and center console (see the relevant chapter).
Disconnect the ignition switch lock cable (arrow) from the selector lever.

Squeeze the clips and disconnect the cable from the selector lever assembly.
Pull the cable adjustment lock out of the bracket.

Remove the lower part of the instrument panel and steering column covers (see the relevant chapter).
Remove the spring pin (arrow) and disconnect the inner cable from the ignition switch.

Remove the ignition switch lock cable housing (arrow) from the bracket.
Before installation, make sure the selector lever is in position P.
Installation
Secure the ignition switch interlock cable housing to the bracket.

Connect the inner cable to the ignition switch and secure it with the spring pin.
Install the steering column covers and lower instrument panel (see the relevant chapter).
Adjust the position of the ignition switch lock cable housing in relation to the selector lever assembly as follows.
Connect the ignition switch inner lock cable to the lever.
Check that the cable moves smoothly, then pull the cable housing back with slight force.

Adjust the position of the cable adjustment lock so that the "T" mark is facing upward.

Examination
Check the operation of the selector lever as follows:
- The selector lever cannot be moved from position P if the key in the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
- When the key in the ignition switch is in the IGN position, the selector lever should only move from the P position after the brake pedal is depressed.
- Make sure that the key in the ignition switch can be turned to the LOCK position and removed from the ignition switch only when the selector lever is in the P position.
