2. Remove the small dust cap from the center of the hub.
3. Remove the cotter pin from the short shaft gear nut.
4. Tighten the nut to a torque value of 25 Nm (18 Lbf·ft), while turning the wheel (or brake drum).
5. After tightening the nut to this original setting, loosen the nut until you can barely move the thrust washer. Determine this by trying to move the gasket with a screwdriver. Do not apply the screwdriver to the hub, but simply press it directly onto the gasket.
6. If the holes for the cotter pin do not coincide with the teeth of the nut, then tighten the nut until the first such coincidence occurs; then check if the thrust pad can still be moved. If possible, install a cotter pin; if not, loosen the nut to the next position and then install the cotter pin.
7. Check that the hub can rotate freely and without binding, and then reinstall the dust cap.
