Short axle rear suspension — removal and installation (Opel Ascona C)

1. Remove the hub as shown in Section 12.

2. Unscrew and remove the four bolts that secure the short axle support flange to the axle flange. Remove the short axle.

3. New bolts must be used at the assembly stage; they should already be coated with thread locking compound. Make sure that these new bolts were manufactured no more than three years ago, as if this were the case the compound should have lost its locking properties by now. A single number on the bolt head indicates the year of manufacture. It is important that the short axle threads are completely free of any remaining old mixture that is blocking the threads. Ideally, clean the threads well with a thread cutting tool.

4. Tighten the bolts according to the stages specified in the Specifications.

5. Install the hub.
