Exhaust valve (1) located on the back of the engine. To fitting (2) the low pressure hose is connected.
Exhaust gas recirculation unit
Consists of a solenoid valve (1) and recycling devices (2).
The exhaust gas recirculation system includes a mechanical exhaust gas valve, in the same node with which there is a solenoid valve. In addition, there are channels for removing exhaust gases. The system is controlled by the engine control unit. The location of the system for the 2.0 l engine is shown in the first illustration. For the 2.2 liter engine, the exhaust gas regeneration system is located similarly on the back of the cylinder head.
The exhaust gas recirculation system works as follows:
Depending on the operating conditions, the engine control unit activates a solenoid valve, which in turn leads to a decrease in pressure at the exhaust gas valve. The valve then opens. A certain amount of exhaust gases enters the engine inlet, mixing with the intake air.
Exhaust gases reduce the oxygen content in the intake air, which leads to a decrease in the combustion temperature in the cylinders. Reducing the combustion temperature reduces the content of harmful nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases.
If the solenoid valve or the pipeline between the valve and the control unit fails, a warning lamp lights up on the instrument panel. The nature of the malfunction is determined by the corresponding code in the diagnostic unit.
If the fault is prolonged, the control unit switches the recirculation system to emergency mode.
