
The exhaust gas bleed valve (1) is located on the back of the engine. A low pressure hose is connected to the fitting (2).
Exhaust gas recirculation unit
Consists of a solenoid valve (1) and a recirculation device (2).
The exhaust gas recirculation system includes a mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve, which is integrated into the electromagnetic valve. In addition, there are exhaust gas discharge channels. The system is controlled by the engine control unit. The system layout for the 2.0L engine is shown in the first illustration. The 2.2L engine has an exhaust gas regeneration system located similarly on the back side of the cylinder head.
The exhaust gas recirculation system works as follows:
Depending on the operating conditions, the engine control unit switches on the electromagnetic valve, which in turn leads to a decrease in pressure on the exhaust gas outlet valve. The valve then opens. A certain amount of exhaust gases enters the engine inlet, mixing with the intake air.
Exhaust gases reduce the oxygen content of the intake air, which leads to a decrease in combustion temperature in the cylinders. Lowering the combustion temperature reduces the content of harmful nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases.
If the solenoid valve or the pipe between the valve and the control unit fails, the indicator on the instrument panel lights up. The nature of the malfunction is determined by the corresponding code in the diagnostic unit.
If the fault is of a long-term nature, the control unit switches the recirculation system to emergency mode.
