The task of the secondary air mixing system in 2.2 liter engines is to oxidize the exhaust gases during the engine warm-up period and reduce the catalyst reaction time. The supplied air contributes to the afterburning of unburned fuel particles in the exhaust gases.
The secondary air mixing system has an air pump located in the engine compartment and fixed on the side wall. The low pressure hoses of the pump are connected to the motor, check valve and air filter.
The pump is bolted to the bracket.
