Engine 2.0 l until 1995 release
1. The generator mounting is shown in fig. Disconnect the cables from the back of the generator.
2. Remove the drive belt as described in Chapter Cooling and heating systems for this engine. This version has a belt tension adjustment device.
3. Remove the alternator mounting bolts from the tension bar and from the lower support (arrows in the illustration).
When installing the generator, hand-tighten the mounting bolts. Put on the V-belt and adjust its tension. Then tighten the bolt shown in fig. and tighten the bolts and nuts of the lower mounting of the generator.
Connect the cables to the back of the generator. Connect the battery ground cable.
Engine 2.0 l since the middle of 1995 of release
Here it is necessary to carry out some preparatory work to get to the generator.
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Remove the parts shown in fig. This is an air intake hose (1) between throttle body and air filter housing. Disconnect cable plug connection (2) from the intake air temperature sensor and (3) intake air mass meter.
3. Mark the direction of rotation of the belt with paint on the outside and turn the tensioner with a spanner to the right so that the belt can be removed.
4. Remove the generator according to illustr. To do this, first unscrew the fastening bolts (1) And (2), and then bolts (3) And (4). After that, the lower generator mounting bolt is loosened. Tilt the generator aside.
5. From the back of the generator, remove the two cable entries, completely remove the bottom bolt and lift the generator up.
The generator is installed in the reverse order of removal. bottom terminal (terminal 61) tighten to 4 Nm, upper terminal (terminal 30) tighten to 8 Nm. Make sure that the cable is laid correctly.
When attaching the generator, observe the following tightening torques:
1. Mounting bolts with (1) By (4) on illustration tighten to 18 Nm.
2. The lower mounting bolt is tightened with a torque of 35 Nm.
Put on the V-belt according to the direction of rotation marking and tighten with a roller as described in the appropriate section for the engine in question. Finally, reinstall the parts shown in fig.
DOHC engine (volume 2.2 l) from the middle of 1995 release
1. As with the 2.0 liter engine, it is necessary to carry out preliminary preparation in order to provide access to the generator. To do this, disconnect the ones shown in the illustration. hose clamps (1), (2), (3) And (7). Disconnect the plug-in connections of the cable harness (6) intake air temperature sensor, air mass meter cable harness and remove the intake air hose (5) between throttle body and air filter housing.
2. Other parts removed similar to 2.0L engine since mid 1995, including alternator mount (see illus.).
In the presence of air conditioning, it is necessary to disconnect the power steering pump, providing access to the lower alternator mounting bolt. The hydraulic hoses of the pump cannot be disconnected. Set the pump aside.
The generator is installed according to the description for 2.0 liter engines from the middle of 1995 of release.
V-belt tension adjustment
Tension adjustment of the alternator drive V-belt is described in Chapter Cooling and heating systems, if it is a V-belt with a tensioner (engine 2.4 l until the middle of 1995 release).
